The USA networks 4AM movie tonight was Josie and the Pussycats. But what drew me in wasn’t the fact that it took me back to a post 90’s era where CD’s were still in and almost no one knew what an iPod was (not the mention everyone still used AOL), but it was the insane amount of advertising in the movie.
Now the whole film is about not selling out and not buying into ads, but literally in every shot (and I mean in EVERY shot) there was an ad for some product. Watch the movie again to see what I’m talking about. I can’t tell if it was done in a parodist way, or if it was also paying for the film. Either way it was crazy.
EDIT: “To stay with the ‘consumer economy’ tone of the film, from beginning to end there are approximately 73 companies who have product placements shown; from logos to actual items ranging in entertainment, electronics, fashion, food, hygiene, and cars. No money was received from all the product placements in the film.”
